Worthy of note and at times out of the ordinary

I subscribe to a southern life style magazine called Garden and Gun, if I had to describe the magazine I would say it heralds the southern lifestyle and mindset while showing that it doesn’t necessarily have to be happening in the south. It could happen anyway.

The February/March issue ran an article called Anatomy of a classic “Holly Mole” A sweet secret for divine grilled quail (http://gardenandgun.com/article/anatomy-classic-grilled-quail) that’s served up in Brooklyn’s section of Carroll Gardens at a place called Seersucker. (http://seersuckerbrooklyn.com/)

The article peaked my interest for two reasons, first the cover teases you with An Ozark Spin on Grilled Quail and second who doesn’t like Quail? With chocolate no less?

After reading the article I realized there’s a bit of irony here, you see the owner, Robert Newton rears from Mountain Home, Arkansas which is 30 minutes from our homestead and found his way to Brooklyn and I grew up in Brooklyn and found my way to Yellville, Arkansas.

Strange, huh?

Anyway, Samantha and I meet at Seersucker last night at 7 and had a wonderful relaxing evening filled with great food, and worthy of note and at times out of the ordinary conversation.

We of course had the Spiced Quail with Chocolate Gravy as an appetizer along with fried oysters then we jump into the entrée with Pan Seared Diver Scallops over Carolina Gold Rice Grits, and Fried Chicken.

To finish things off we had Chess Pie and I had a hot cup of Joe.

Although the food was exquisite, the service was superb; the company as always was delightful there was one disappointing factor, my wife Judith wasn’t by my side to share our experience.

It’s hard working out of town.

I never did meet the owner … maybe next time.

  1. Looks like a beautiful restaurant to enjoy with 'Mantha. Who cut yer hair?! They took off the trademark swooshie thing. You'll have to get yer wife to cut it again - she's real good at it ;)
